Nearly a thousand years of town history, exam honors carved into the lintels
- Traces to the Song dynasty's Kaibao era (~972 CE), built up under the Ming's Wanli reign and peaking under the Qing's Qianlong emperor
- Named a national "Historic and Cultural Town" in 2007 (third batch) and an AAAA scenic area in 2009
- Qing-dynasty Huangyao produced 11 provincial graduates, 7 metropolitan graduates and 3 prefects — their honor plaques still hang over old doorways
- The "Four Wonders of Huangyao": a small bridge, towering banyans, a flagstone street, carved memorial plaques — take any one away and it isn't Huangyao anymore
