The old town reads like an open-air museum of world architecture
- Badaguan alone holds 200-plus historic buildings spanning multiple European national styles — nicknamed the 'World Architecture Museum' and a nationally protected heritage site (not a UNESCO listing)
- St. Michael's Cathedral is a twin-spired Gothic Catholic church — the square outside is free, and stepping inside costs roughly ¥10
- Zhongshan Road still holds many German-era arcade buildings and was the old town's original commercial heart
- Xinhaoshan Park gives you the classic overview of the old town's red-roofed, tree-lined skyline
